My story

*This dog is scheduled to arrive in Grimsby, Ontario on Saturday, June 28*Apply to adopt at rebeldogrescue.com*All adoptions with Rebel Dog Rescue have a 15 day probation period. Read about our adoption process on our website. Meet Nova, a canine companion who is a delightful blend of sweet, curious, brave, and smart. Her shyness is endearing, hinting at a gentle soul who prefers to take her time in getting to know you. Despite her initial reserve, Nova is incredibly loyal, showcasing her deep-rooted devotion once she's comfortable. Her mellow temperament makes her a perfect fit for a tranquil home environment. As an independent spirit, Nova enjoys her own space but is always ready to share moments of love and companionship. She's a brave heart, always ready to explore new things, yet her intelligence shines through in her careful approach. Nova's gentle nature is a testament to her resilience, and her loyalty is a testament to her loving heart. Adopt Nova, not just because she's a dog in need, but because she can bring a unique blend of love, loyalty, and tranquility to your life.Name: Nova Breed: Australian Shep mix Age: ~5 years Weight: ~40lbSex: Female, spayed Colour: Tri-colour Medical: No concerns Good with men: Yes, but shy and warms up quicklyGood with women: Yes, but shy and warms up quicklyGood with kids 0-6: Unknown, not tested but prefer older due to shyness Good with kids 7-15: Unknown, not tested but suspect yes with kids who are respectful and have dog experience When the dog meets new people she: Approaches cautiously, Approaches in a neutral manner, Shy, Does not want to interact at first, but warms up, Tail tuckedGood with dogs: Yes, happy to co-exist with other dogsHow does this dog react to meeting new dogs? Neutral - will say hello nicelyWhat type(s) of dogs does this dog prefer/be best with? Nova has mostly been around calmer dogs and has done well. I haven't seen her around large or super high energy dogs, but she would likely do fine with large breeds if they are a bit older.Good with Cats: Unknown, not testedCrate training: Enters crate willingly, Settles quickly and quietlyHouse trained: 75% Resource Guarding: None seenWalks on a leash: Walks well, Nervous and needs coaxing. Before she came to us, she had never experienced any 'normal' dog activities. She never wore a collar or walked on a leash, so when she first arrived, it took a lot of treats and patience to help her walk while on leash. She does much better now as staff has worked with her daily to practice leash walks.Energy level: Medium Areas to work on: Needs confidence building. Nova would probably benefit from some extra socialization practice, as she hasn't experience much (or anything) outside of the house she came from. She is very sweet and has shown willingness to try new things, but just needs patience. What type of environments would NOT be suitable for the dog? CityAny noted separation anxiety? None that we have seen.Barker: Average What would be the ideal home for this dog?The ideal home for Nova would be somewhere with a yard for her to sunbathe and sniff, or somewhere that her new family can take her on nice quiet walks each day. She would do well with a calm dog, or even older kids to play with. She is very sweet and adaptable to new environments. I just wouldn't recommend a city life for her, as that may be too much movement and noise for her to take on at this time.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nova, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
