My story

FRISKY: Frisky will be a chatty, social friend once he warms up to you! He loves being pet, and is a purr machine. He enjoys settling on a soft bed or blanket. Frisky is obese, and excess weight can cause or exacerbate other health conditions, and can negatively affect comfort and mobility. It is recommended that his adopter establishes a relationship with a primary care veterinarian to create a weight loss plan. He has evidence of tooth resorption. This is a painful condition that causes teeth to be destroyed by the body. Extraction of affected teeth is recommended. (Teeth affected by this condition were removed during a dental procedure at the shelter. However, cats who have tooth resorption will often have additional teeth affected in the future). We recommend establishing care with a primary care veterinarian to monitor dental health. Frisky is easily stressed or overwhelmed during transitions. This looks like growling, hissing, and hiding. If you use a calm voice and just sit in the same area, he will warm up fairly quickly. He can be won over with canned cat food, licky treats, and he LOVES cheek scratches. He is looking for an adopter who is willing to give him as much time as he needs to settle in - it could be a couple of days, weeks, or longer. His success will be dependent on how well his adopters are able to read and appropriately respond to his body language. It is recommended that he be set up in his own space to start (an extra bedroom or bathroom, for example). Choose a space that people or animals do not have access to unless you are going in to clean or feed. He should be left alone initially as he adjusts. This space should include plenty of hiding places, ideally with access to a vertical surfaces as well like a cat tree or a cat-proofed shelf, and easy access to a litter box, food, and water. He should not be approached or pet or picked up when he is hiding or showing fearful body language like curling up into a tight, tense ball, flattening his ears backward or to the sides, hissing, growling, swatting, etc. Ideally, with enough time to himself, he will begin to relax and move around more freely while youre visiting his room. Gradually give thim more access to the home only when he is confidently moving about his environment and remains confident with relaxed body language when you go in to spend time with him. Due to his noise sensitivities, Frisky will do best in a quiet, low t
