Say hello to a sweet cuddle bug with a big heart! His name is Colby and between his perpetual puppy face and soft nature, he is the epitome of why we say rescue is our favorite breed. Take a look at him here then come back to read more! https://youtu.be/lYZo0kjRFp0 Let me help you get to know him by sharing insight from his foster and my experiences after spending the afternoon with him. First off, Colby is fostered in a loving, multi-pet home where he has shown he is house and crate trained and an absolute friend to all. When asked to share about Colby the very first thing she said was “Colby is the cuddliest and sweetest boy! He loves giving kisses, he smooshes his face against yours.” He’s that kind of dog who melts your heart when he leans in for snuggles and turns on the charm with his sweet, gentle nature. After I spent time with him I could see all the makings of that. Because he is in a foster home we have a front-row seat to his personality, skills, and approach to learning, plus he gets to practice all the best house manners in order to be ready for his forever family. Estimated to be practically a baby around 9 months- 1 year old, he is in a beautiful phase of development where learning comes fast and all the best behaviors are born. First, he is fully kennel trained and loves his crate—it’s his safe spot, and he knows good things happen there, for example- breakfast and dinner! Colby lives with other dogs and even cats, and he’s great with them. Roger, a fostered ginger kitty he lived with, was his best friend before Roger found his forever home. Colby might not be a big swimmer, at least that we think, but he loves a kiddie pool or deep puddle. He doesn’t mind wading in for a splash and that also means he is a champ about bath time and doesn’t mind getting sudsy. Colby loves to go for walks and has made doggy friends out and about, greeting poodles, labs, and spaniels on his neighborhood strolls. At home, he’s affectionate and easygoing with the dogs he knows—he likes to be in the middle of things, even if he’s not always playing, just soaking up the comfort and reassurance of his dog pals. Colby would be happiest in a home with a dog friend with a gentle but playful personality. Even though I just adored Colby, I am going to tell you, like any 9 month old ‘ish dog, he is a work in progress and his areas that need progress are with new…new people and places. Although he is friendly and welcoming, he prefers a slow approach. This isn’t a dog that is fast-besties with any ol’ person on the street. He prefers a connection built on quiet trust and understanding. Once that connection is made and he is comfortable, he loves to lean on you for security and affection, but he will need a little bit of patience and calm structure to get there. He’s not a dog for apartment life or first-time dog owners. He needs a home that understands he’s a shy guy with new people and that he needs time and consistent, gentle training to help him feel safe. A house with a yard would be best for him to roam and decompress. He’d be happiest with a low to medium-energy female dog buddy to help him feel secure and, if you have a dog-savvy cat, he would adore that. Colby’s the kind of dog who will be your loyal snuggle buddy once he’s comfortable. He’s already proven he’s a sweetheart with the dogs and cats he knows. With patience and the right home, he’ll be the best kind of friend—the one who just wants to be near you and share some quiet love. If you’re ready for a cuddle champion with growing confidence, Colby is here, ready and waiting! Questions? We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success. Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
