My story

Dolly Pawton & Hillary Ruff were found in Porterville living under a school. That particular area is a popular dumping ground for unwanted dogs. A teacher found them, they were both incredibly under weight. Over the past 3 months he has been feeding them once a day. The 50 highschoolers from his class would play with them as well. Now that summer is approaching, he reached out to Shelter Hope to help find them forever homes. According to their foster, despite living outside for many months they seem to be very familiar with living in a home. They know how to use the doggy door and have not gone potty in their home. However, they are not familiar with walking on a leash. Dolly especially loves toys, she tends to collect them and gather them all together in a secret stash. Both are good with men, teens, and other dogs. We haven’t seen them interact with little kids or cats. They are shy at first, but once they have a few minutes to get familiar with you, they are very outgoing and affectionate. They especially love to run and wrestle with each other. We think at one point Dolly had a litter of puppies but sadly none were found with them. She also has a cherry eye, which does not appear to cause her discomfort or pain. Dolly and Hillary are a bonded pair and would do best in a patient loving home together. Be ready to adopt. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. Please fill out our online application and our adoption counselor will reach out to you to discuss meeting your new family member. Please be aware if we have already approved another party for the dog you are interested in, you may not get a call from us.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hilary Ruff, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
