My story

VIP Adoptable! Pet of the Week June 23!This one and a half year old male German Shepherd mix is black and white in color and weighs 51 pounds. Balto has been with us for a month, and from the very first moment he arrived with an injured leg, we knew he was something special. Despite being in obvious pain with a leg wound, he was still lifting his paw to try to `hold hands`—a gesture he continues to do with everyone he meets. He allowed us to care for him, even through microchipping and medical treatment, with incredible patience and grace. Now healed (and still a fan of hand-holding!), Balto is ready for his forever home. He doesn`t let his past injury slow him down one bit and loves nudging his head into your lap or arms for affection. He recently had staples removed from his leg without sedation—just another testament to how gentle and trusting he is. Balto isn’t a fan of feline companions, but he passed his dog-to-dog assessment and truly shines around people. He’s a loving, sweet-natured boy who just wants a human to share his big heart and even bigger paws with.
