Astra is a dream girl! If she was a person and walked into the room you would be struck by her good looks but then once you were introduced you would realize she is also hilarious, charming, smart and gives the best hugs. Sure, she’s a dog and can’t talk but you get the point. She’s strikingly beautiful, smart, and full of affectionate energy. Take a look then come back to read more! https://youtu.be/UKvUj7EI0gI At first, she might be a little unsure during car rides, but she’s quickly figured out that car rides mean new adventures. She loves sticking her nose out the window to catch the breeze or just snoozing in the back seat. She’s estimated to be about 2 years old, she weighs 42 lbs, and is likely Husky/malamute/shepherd mix—though with rescue pups, breed guesses and age estimates are just that: guesses! What we do know is she is an active, loving girl who’s always up for playtime or snuggles. Whether that’s chasing a ball, playing with dog friends or a fun-loving person, she is such a good time! She is incredibly dog-friendly and has been part of large playgroups where she’s always ready to join in the fun or help get it started. She’s cat-friendly too! She has met our house cat and cats living in a foster home and she is great, wanting to play with them and be friends. Luckiy for her our house cat loves dogs but we know not all cats do, o she’d be best in a home with a dog-savvy cat who doesn’t mind a playful pup. If there’s a cat in the house, having a dog buddy to share the fun with will keep her from seeing the cat as her only playmate. Astra also loves water—she’ll happily splash around whenever she gets the chance. We have only seen her in a large dog pool but we love to imagine all the fun she would have at the beach or in a lake. Astra’s already learned some basic commands like “sit,” “down,” and “shake” and because she is treat motivated teaching we anticipate teaching her new skills/tricks will come along easily. She’s crate trained, house trained, and settles down nicely after playtime, making her an easy-going companion. She’s the type of dog who will always up for an adventure but just as happy to cozy up with you for some quiet time. When introduced to kids she truly lit up and we were not at all surprised to see what a gentle girl she was with them. From a 4 year old to an 11 year old, she sees kids as a fun addition to any situation. If you are the outdoorsy type, Astra will fit right in! Because of her active side, Astra would love a home with a yard or an active family who enjoys getting out and about. We always talk about what an amazing hiking/exploring buddy she would be. From her ease on leash to her jump-in-the-car-and-go readiness, she was built for that life! We don't encourage the husky types in anapartme life, from their vocal side to thier love of the outdoors, a yard to zoom around in is the dream! Astra is just the best of all worlds—playful but settles easily, loving without being too pushy, loyal and smart. She’s ready to be your new adventure buddy, your snuggle partner, and your best friend. If you’re looking for a sweet, fluffy, fun-loving dog who’s always up for a new experience, Astra is your dream girl! Questions? We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success. Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress! Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet. The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
