My story

Meet Nick! A gentle, quiet soul who's slowly learning that the world isn’t such a scary place. He’s crate trained, doesn’t bark, and isn’t destructive. At night, he sleeps peacefully in his crate, and during the day, he’s calm and content just being near his people. He’s very well-behaved on leash and loves going on walks, especially with his foster dog sister by his side. Other barking dogs or passing distractions don’t seem to bother him at all. Nick is still shy around people and tends to keep his distance, but he no longer hides away. While he’s not quite ready for cuddles, he’ll accept gentle head rubs and treats out of your hand. He likes being in the same room as his people, quietly observing and following them from place to place. If his foster steps out of the room, he’s not far behind. He tilts his head when you talk to him, like he’s trying to understand every word, and while he’s not curling up in laps just yet, he’s made huge progress from the timid pup he once was. He has been around an 8-year-old child and handled it well. We would think calm kids that let him do his own thing would be ok. He’s also done fine with other dogs and cats though he mostly keeps to himself and doesn’t seek out play. He’s the kind of pup who prefers the company of calm, quiet humans and would do best in a patient home that can let him continue to grow at his own pace. A securely fenced yard is ideal but not required - he will need to be leashed outside at all times, as he loves being outside and will happily nap in the grass or relax by the firepit. He’s a bit of a flight risk if startled, so he should always be leashed or in a secured space. His foster still keeps a lead on him inside sometimes, just in case he needs to be caught quickly. While Nick isn’t the kind of dog to run up and greet guests or jump in your lap, he is a truly sweet pup who just needs time. He’s come a long way already he used to hide and was too scared to take treats, and now he’s walking confidently, accepting affection, and showing his personality. He may never be the life of the party, but he’ll be the quiet, comforting presence always close by, watching, learning, and slowly learning to trust. If you’re someone who understands that love and trust take time, Nick just might be the perfect fit.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Nick, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
