My story

Meet Maxwell Age: 11 months Gender: Male Weight: 19 kg / 41 lbs Breed: Shepherd Mix Color: Brown with black and tan markings Health & Wellness Neutered Vaccinated Heartworm Negative Personality & Behavior Dog-friendly? Yes! Maxwell loves to play and gets along with dogs of all sizes. He's respectful of smaller dogs. Resource Guarding? No, but we recommend feeding separately during the trial period just to be safe. Barky? Not typically — he’s alert but not overly vocal. Good with Kids? Best with older children due to his strength and agility. Good with Cats? No. Shedding? Yes — he requires regular grooming and brushing. Energy Level? Medium to high. As a young, active pup, Maxwell needs daily exercise and mental stimulation. Playtime with other dogs is ideal! Training & Adaptability ‍ Leash-trained? Yes, though he can be leash-protective at times. Car Rides? Yes, though he may bark at other dogs he sees. Potty-trained? Yes — Maxwell adjusted well to a home setting in foster care. He’s currently in an open daycare facility. Note: Maintaining a consistent routine helps with potty training, especially if there’s already a dog in the home to model good habits. Maxwell is very intelligent and learns quickly. Crate-trained? Yes, mainly for air travel. Home Life When Alone: Maxwell currently stays in a kennel at an outdoor facility. He enjoys socializing but also values alone time to rest. In a home, he shouldn’t be left alone for more than 4–6 hours. Providing chew toys helps keep him entertained.Sleeping: Maxwell is used to sleeping in a kennel among other dogs but thrived in a home environment during foster care. Like most Shepherds, he feels most secure and happy when close to his people. Temperament Maxwell has all the hallmark traits of a Shepherd — intelligent, loyal, and even-tempered. Confident and affectionate, Maxwell bonds quickly with people and thrives on companionship. He loves playtime with other dogs and adores cuddling or tagging along with his person. Note: Ongoing social interaction is vital to support his emotional well-being and prevent boredom-related behaviors. We recommend learning about the Shepherd breed before adopting. Ideal Home Maxwell will flourish with an experienced, active dog owner who loves the German Shepherd breed — or with a family accustomed to having dogs. A home with access to open space is ideal, as Maxwell enjoys being outside and staying active. Not recommended for apartment living unless regular exercise and structured routines are guaranteed. Maxwell would also do great as a second dog in a home with another active canine companion. He’s incredibly loyal and forms strong bonds with his people, offering unmatched companionship and protection. Rescue Story Maxwell was found limping through the streets of Guadalajara, Mexico, likely kicked or injured. Despite the pain, he trusted his rescuers and allowed them to help him — a testament to his sweet and gentle nature. After a vet check confirmed no major injuries, he began his recovery and search for a loving forever home. He’s now waiting for his second chance with a family that will cherish him for the loyal, smart, and loving dog he truly is. Location: Mexico, looking for a trial home to make the trip to WA Adoption Fee: $600 Apply to adopt Maxwell: www.northwestwagrescue.org ##2414213##
