My story

Benedict is a 3-year-old, 18-pound low-rider poodle mix with a sweet and silly personality. He’s snuggly, affectionate, and loves to give kisses. He has a goofy little demeanor that will make you smile, and he enjoys playing fetch, going on walks, and cuddling close. He would thrive as the only dog in the home, where he can soak up all the attention he deserves. Benedict's journey hasn’t been easy. He was rescued from a backyard near Bakersfield, where he was living in extremely poor conditions. Confined to a tiny, filthy space, he was severely matted, flea-infested, and suffering from overgrown nails, red skin, and painful sores. Both ears were infected, and a large foxtail was embedded in his eye. After being surrendered by someone suspected to be a breeder, his rescuer drove two hours to bring him to safety. He was shaved to the skin for relief and began his healing journey. Now, Benedict is healthy, happy, and ready for a forever family who will show him the love and care he’s always deserved. More from his foster: “Benedict is a such a good dog. He has not barked once. He is great in public settings. He sat on my lap quietly at the Stonehaus and hasn't barked at other dogs or people. He loves walks. Snifs around and marks his territory. Very playful at home too. Great sleeper. Sleeps from 10pm to 6 am. Then does his business outside. he slept on my bed with no issues. Great finishing his food. The only downside is his little markings inside the house. He is also cautious with new people but warms up quickly. 💕” ------------ Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers. Be Ready: If your application is selected, our rescue counselor will be in touch for a phone interview. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. Please Keep in Mind: Due to high demand, especially for popular dogs, not all applicants will be contacted. Moreover, we may not reach out if we have already approved a family to adopt. The process can take several days. Thank you for your patience!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Benedict Cumberbark, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
