My story

Australian Shepherd Mix Age: 2 yr old Female, Spayed 32 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) We pulled Sage from the Stockton Shelter over a year and a half ago. She was just 3 months old and had been hit by a car. Both hips were in very bad shape. The side that took the impact was not salvageable (and the decision was to amputate that leg). The other side wasn't much better, but our vet thought that because she was young, the hip may "heal" enough on its own to be usable - and it appears that it did - because she definitely uses that leg like nothing ever happened. One of the families that nursed her back to health decided that they wanted to adopt her. Unfortunately, we probably "dropped the ball" on her adoption. We were so thrilled to find a home for a disabled dog, that we didn't focus enough on her breed - a working/herding Australian Shepherd (no matter how many legs she has). In hindsight, the family that adopted her wasn't the best fit for her needs, and they rightfully returned her. Sage needs LOTS of exercise. In an urban setting this means brisk walks/runs, frequent visits to a large space dog park. She is also very smart and needs mentally stimulating activities. This breed doesn't do well with routine long periods of confinement (like a crate or small room). She would do well with other dogs similar to her breed who can set a good example for her. She has spent a couple days at the adoption center with lots of other dogs showing her how to be friendly with visitors to the dog area. She did well. On days that we didn't have a lot of dogs there, she was more weary of strangers that came into the adoption center - she could use some more socialization. Ideally, we would love to find her a rural setting, where she had lots of outdoor space and with other herding breed dogs, but unfortunately, that would probably too much to ask for. Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13. For more information about Sage, contact: nobodysperfektdogs@gmail.com

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sage, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
