Gus is an adorable 7 year old, 50-pound terrier mix. This sweet boy's life was turned upside down when his owner became too ill to care for him. After some consistency and time, Gus is really showing his adorable self In foster care. He loves to sleep on the couch, play keep away/fetch and share snacks. Gus also loves to lay with you on you on the floor and get snuggles/wrestle. Gus is currently living with a foster who has several dogs, and he does very well with them. Gus loves to play with the 10 month old puppy, and very respectful of the old man of the house. Gus loves to play with other dogs, wrestle and investigate everything. When Gus is excited, he can invade personal space with his nose and needs help with giving some animals, and people, more adjustment time. Gus gets super excited to play in running water and then rub his face in the grass or get towel dried. He also enjoys squeaky toys, sour patch kids, popcorn and jerky treats. Gus knows how to sit and shake! Gus has been learning to live with cats and loves kittens! Gus gets very excited and can intimidate some cats, but mostly he wants to follow them around and poke them with his nose. If they stand their ground, he is learning to leave them alone. He is house and crate trained and very responsive to electronic collars, beeps/tones and leashes. Gus loves to go for walks, but can be strong on the leash, he improves with a gentle-leader and practice. Gus can live in a home with kids and other pets, but he will need a home willing to be patient with his quirks. Gus gets happy/excited meeting new people or going new places, and he can jump or whine; Giving him a treat and asking him to sit helps him. Gus occasionally has an odd way of playing and can be growly with bones and toys, yet he has not tried to harm another dog. Gus can appear stoic and often appears as though everything is fine, but can get overstimulated quickly. If Gus gets overstimulated playing or with certain noises/sounds, he can go into statue mode. This can happen with lots of new people or in the car too. Gus can go into guard/bark mode where he finds a toy or paper towel roll, and protects it. He has to be put on a leash or distracted with food when he is in these modes. Gus has never tried to bite his foster mom, but can definitely appear fierce when he is acting tough and responds primarily to positive reinforcement styles. This just means he needs people willing to keep working with him, Gus is a super cute, smart and unique boy who deserves a great home. Gus' adoption fee of $250 includes a microchip, vaccinations, and neuter surgery.
