My story

Meet Ruger – Your Adventure Buddy and Snuggle Expert Ruger is a 2-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix who was found as a stray on 5/6/25. Since arriving at PAC, he’s made it clear that he lives for human interaction. This affectionate guy wants to be by your side—or ideally, right in your lap!Ruger is eager to please and already knows sit, lay down, and roll over. He’s a huge fan of belly rubs and enjoys playing ball—but only if the game stays fun and engaging. He has a medium energy level, with bursts of playfulness followed by cuddle time. Ruger walks nicely on leash and loves meeting other dogs, showing excitement and friendly play behavior. He scored Grade A across all parts of his behavior assessment, with tail wags, soft body, gentle kisses, and lots of connection-seeking behavior. The only issue we’ve seen is that Ruger sometimes grabs the leash when it’s time to return to his kennel, showing some frustration. He does not display this behavior on walks or in the yard. Redirection with toys or treats helps, and this behavior is easily managed with calm, consistent handling.Ruger would thrive in an active home where he can go on hikes, explore new places, and stay mentally engaged. A 6-foot fence and enrichment tools like food puzzles or nosework games would be ideal. He responds well to positive reinforcement and would benefit from continued basic training. We’re unsure how Ruger does with children, so slow, supervised introductions are recommended. Adult supervision is a must during any child-dog interaction.Ruger is ready to bond deeply with someone who enjoys both adventure and affection—he’s truly the best of both worlds!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt RUGER, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
