Animal Profile: Ryder is an estimated 4-year-old 55 lb neutered male American Bully mix. He came to the shelter as a stray and was a staff favorite. They described him as friendly, fun and adorable. Foster Update: Ryder is a handsome and energetic dog who loves to play. He gets lots of compliments, in part because of his muscular physique -- he looks like he hits the gym every day! Ryder loves to be with his people and becomes quite cuddly when you hold him or rub his belly. He’s always ready to chase, tug on a rope or fetch, and with practice will now happily drop the ball so you can throw it again. Ryder doesn't typically bark at other dogs but he is strong and has a rough-and-tumble play style. In true pitty fashion, he loves to bump and go under/over other dogs. Ryder will need a tolerant and sturdy canine companion if he goes to a home with a resident dog. Ryder is crate trained and has good house manners -- he doesn't chew on off-limits items like furniture, shoes or socks. He's come a long way with his impulse control: He used to get very excited coming out of the crate or greeting guests but has shown willingness to respond to a firm "NO." It's helpful that he is quite food and praise motivated; belly rubs are the best! Ryder has shown he can be quite in tune with your mood. When you're excited he's ready to go! When you're calm, he's ready for snuggles. With all his training progress his new nickname is "Little Gentleman." This loving boy will make a beautiful addition to the right family -- pitbull breed experience preferred. Temp Foster Coverage Notes: "Just finished my week with Ryder and wanted to reiterate what you know -- he's a great dog and good to go for adoption! He settled in really fast here, was so well behaved, knows many commands and totally crate trained (ran in when I said 'crate'), settles super fast when you have work to do, is great on leash, likes scratches/pets but isn't pushy, responds so well to 'no' (learns right away not to do whatever it was again), and is super engaged (looks you in the eye and wants to do what you want him to do). We have a lot of reactive dogs in the neighborhood including right next door and he did not react at all to their reactivity -- so awesome! He loves the play fetch but when you're done he's okay being done. He loves chew toys (and destroys the stuffed ones quickly). It's remarkable that he settles so fast in new places, and in a short time he attached to us letting out happy little howls when one of us would come home - so sweet!" He was adopted in Fall 2024 but due to personal crisis (no fault of Ryder's) returned to rescue in June 2025. He received training at The Good Dog in Bellingham with his current foster, and is available for adoption in the greater Seattle area. August 22, 2025, 4:27 pm
