My story

Annie was left tied up to a pole in North Philadelphia by a leather belt wrapped around her waist. Local kids allowed and encouraged their dogs to attack her mercilessly, unable to run or defend herself. These same kids then followed up by striking Annie on her head over and over again with cinder blocks. A person who saw this occurring called in and reported the abuse, which police responded to, while a group of kind young girls guarded Annie until GoodBoy arrived to get her to safety. Annie has many old scars, suggesting she has faced this type of abuse for a very long time, and was likely used as a “bait dog” to train dogs used in illegal dog fighting. We are too upset at this point to do anything but focus on Annie’s future, and address her wounds as quickly as we possibly can. The good news is that while Annie sustained many injuries, including a ripped-off lip, they are all going to heal with time and treatment. Our immediate concern is that both her eyes were significantly damaged by the beating and she is at risk of going blind. UPDATE: Annie is out of surgery and recovering! She ended up needing corneal graphs (from significant trauma) on both eyes, but her prognosis is good! She was spayed, and examined further while she was under anesthesia. They found multiple wounds on the inside of her mouth, suggesting her mouth was taped shut at some point for an extended period of time. All of this is expected to heal and she can start the process of getting her life back! We have received many questions about when she will be available for adoption or foster. While we need to get her medically stable, we will start collecting applications for fosters or adopters for her now. Thank you all so much for giving love and support to this wonderful soul who deserves nothing but the best. Today reminded us…It takes a village to do this work, so our deepest gratitude to everyone who stepped to help Annie in her time of need 💛

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Annie, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
