My story

Meet Lincoln! Sweet Lincoln was transferred to us from an overcrowded animal shelter in CA. He arrived there as a stray when he was just 5 months old and spent the next 8 months in a cage. He is the sweetest guy so we just had to pull him out of this situation and show him that there is life beyond those 4 walls. Lincoln is a gorgeous boy - we are unsure of his mix but guessing perhaps a collie mixed with some pit bull or other type of bully breed. He is now in a foster home and doing well. He arrived quite shut down and clearly growing up in a shelter did not prepare him for life all that well. The good news is that he LOVES other dogs and they help him learn and blossom. He loves his doberman foster brother and follows his lead. Having another dog in his forever home will be key to help him thrive.  With humans, Lincoln is slower to warm up. He needs time and patience to trust. He does not have a mean bone in his body but he is shy and reserved with new people. He walks well on a leash now and will follow a handler who helps him feel confident. He is such a gentle and sweet-natured boy.  He is learning to enjoy cuddles and pets - he is still timid about that at times. Sadly the lack of socialization in the shelter means that he never learned that human hands can be gentle and give good scratches. He is catching on though! Lincoln is indifferent to cats and will do fine in a home with cats. A home with a yard will be great for him, and of course a dog friend. We think he will be a bit overwhelmed with children, as their unpredictable movements may scare him. Kids over 12 will be fine. We would love to see Lincoln in a home with a patient person(s) who is willing to meet him where he is at and who can see the gem that he is. Watching him grow and learn and be amazed at his freedom in his foster home has been wonderful and we know he will continue to blossom. Lincoln is vaccinated, chipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at www.savinggreatanimals.org and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon!
