UPDATE 05/29/2025 -- In the interest of transparency, we want to let potential adopters know that a urinalysis was done on Smokey Bones due to his frequent urination. Results are not conclusive at this time, but testing revealed Smokey Bones has abnormal 'Specific Gravity' - his is low. [ In healthy dogs, urine specific gravity (USG) typically falls between 1.015 and 1.045. This measurement reflects the concentration of particles in the urine and is a way to assess kidney function and hydration status.AI generated description]. The veterinarian recommended a low protein diet over the next month to assess whether additional testing is needed. It is important to note that other values of the urinalysis are normal. There is no indication of diabetes or infection. Copies of Smokey Bones' testing is below. Meet Smokey Bones - named after Smokey Bones bbq restaurant. Smokey Bones was being given away by a family that couldn't afford to care for him. He is a young dog, about 1 year old and believed to be a Cairn Terrier mix. Smokey Bones is very much puppy-like, happy-go-lucky, playful, high-energy, a little on the 'wild' side, and loves an adventure. He loves women, but takes a bit of time to warm up to men. He is said to be good with children as well. He has met several dogs in the community and seems very willing to play with them. Smokey Bones' ideal home has an active family that can provide the mental stimulation and physical exercise he requires. A suitable canine companion would be great as well. A fenced yard would be a plus because he loves to go outside. Due to his unstable home life, Smokey Bones is not totally housetrained, but he is a fast learner, and with consistency and an established routine should do wonderfully. He has learned 'sit', 'down', 'no jump', and is working on 'shake/paw', 'sit-n-wait' [for dinner], 'wait' and 'off'. He is a chewer so will need lots of appropriate things to chew on or you might be missing a slipper! He loves his crate and willing goes in it to sleep or play with his toys. Smokey Bones visited a vet for a wellness exam and vaccines. He could stand to put on a pound or two. He is UTD on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. Smokey Bones needs a stable home environment and committed family to help him become a great canine citizen. Could that be you? Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information. Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
