My story

Poppy is a female black tan and silver Yorkshire Terrier. She is 1-2 years old and weighs 9 lbs. Poppy is spayed, vaccinated including rabies. She is heartworm negative and on preventive. Poppy is ready for adoption. Poppy came to rescue with days old puppies back in January’s cold weeks and was lucky to have a foster home to help her over the rough patch. Poppy is extremely docile and painfully shy. She is trying to learn to be a dog and will need lots of patience and grace. Poppy will also need you to love her for her tiny steps of progress and not be disappointed if she is always a bit different. Poppy does well when unsupervised with her own little “apartment” a 3’x3’ pen with a mesh cover, her bowls, bed, toys and a small potty pad. Poppy will sit out among the other dogs during play time and has begun small interactions like nose touches but has yet to play with them. Poppy gets her outside time with a leash and harness either sitting on the porch or walking in the yard. She is a runner and climber so she needs a harness and leash. She also has so far never used the potty outside. With a small privacy fenced yard she might be able to be off leash and perhaps learn to potty there. For now we just try to make sure she gets a little sunshine and outdoor air. Poppy can be picked up anytime, held and petted, sits in your lap or lays by you on the couch or bed. She naps with her current foster mom in the big bed. Poppy likes the cat (who doesn’t really give her a choice anyway). A nice cat or sweet little dog friend would be good for Poppy. She has only ever growled at a boisterous puppy and never nipped or bitten human or animal despite being so very nervous. We are looking for a home with lots to give Poppy in terms or patience and perseverance and unconditional love. Adoption fee is $350. Must apply: Application for adoption is located at http://fs19.formsite.com/JeffTarpleyRescue/application/index.html Jeff Tarpley Rescue 903-490-2959 We require all potential adopters to submit an application. We only accept applications for a specific dog you are interested in adopting. We do not keep waiting lists or files of general applications for dogs we might get later. The online application can be found at this location: http://fs19.formsite.com/JeffTarpleyRescue/application/index.html A completed adoption application and, upon approval, an adoption contract is required. Jeff Tarpley Rescue welcomes applications from homeowners, renters, and condo or apartment dwellers. At a minimum, a phone interview will be conducted and a vet reference checked before the applicant may meet their preferred pet. We adopt primarily in the 4 states of the ArkLaTexOma. Applicants willing to travel to Texarkana will also be considered with additional requirements to qualify as approved.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Poppy in Texarkana TX, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
