Pepper (CL)

We adopted him several weeks ago from the shelter where he had been since he was 7 weeks old. He is great with our 4 year old, loves to be around people, and wants to be a lap dog. He is doing great with his potty training and sleeps through the night in his crate. He loves to play with toys and tug-o-war and fetch are his favorite activities. Pepper doesn't chew on furniture and sits politely while we eat (he does not beg for food). He is very quickly learning to sit on command. Unfortunately, Pepper is a very fearful pup. We live in a rural area with lots of road noise, wild animal noises and people target shooting. Pepper is not a huge fan of loud noises and will basically shut down and run to the house. He does this regardless of being inside and hearing a noise outside, or being outside on a leash. We were hoping he'd be a hiking companion, but Pepper prefers the quiet of home. He also does not like our cat. Pepper would do best in a home in a quiet neighborhood where he had a companion with him most of the day. Again, he is great with our daughter, so kids would be good, but he'd equally thrive in a home with adults only as well. We love sweet Pepper, but we fear that he's unhappy here.
