My story

Meet Shellie! Shellie is a lively and lovable 2-year-old Jack Russell Terrier weighing in at a perfect 12 pounds. With her adorable big ears and energetic personality, she’s sure to capture your heart! Shellie’s journey started in a dangerous place—waddling across a busy four-lane highway while very pregnant. Thankfully, a compassionate young woman risked her own safety to scoop her up and bring her to safety. Unsure how to care for a soon-to-be mom on her apartment balcony, she surrendered Shellie to Poquita Paws Rescue. Just six days later, Shellie gave birth to five puppies despite being thin and in poor health. Four strong boys survived, and she was the most devoted and protective mama! Once her pups were transferred to another rescue at 10 weeks old, she was finally able to relax and show her true sweet and playful nature. Shellie is a dedicated squirrel and toad chaser—she’ll stare up a tree or along the fence line until she’s called back inside or reminded it’s mealtime. She loves hanging out with her furry friends, piling up on the couch for siesta time before gearing up for another round of wrestling, toy stealing, ear pulling, and yard races! She has truly blossomed into a loving and affectionate companion. She adores pets, snuggles, and being close to her person. She eats and sleeps in her kennel, and while she’s housebroken, she may need a little extra reassurance during noisy storms. Leash walking is a work in progress, but she’s eager to learn!  Food lovers, beware!  Shellie is agile and determined when it comes to sneaking a bite of your sandwich or ice cream bowl if left unattended—she’s got some impressive skills! Shellie is spayed, microchipped, heartworm and tick negative, and fully vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $300. If you’re looking for a spirited, loving companion—or need a top-notch squirrel patrol officer—apply to meet Shellie today at poquitapawsrescue.org or submit an application. !     ADOPTION FEE & APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Poquita Paws does not have a shelter, all of our dogs are raised in foster homes.  Each dog comes spay/neutered, rabies shots appropriate for their age, and dewormed twice.  The dogs are up to date on vaccinations according to their age at the time of adoption.  They are microchipped, heartworm tested and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventrative.  ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE. We transport to most states across the country. Medical records will come with each dog at the time of adoption. Our organization is run by volunteers/foster parents, please be patient to give us time to respond to your emails and/or phone calls.  We will reply to youi  Thank you. May 16, 2025, 12:54 pm
