My story

RESCUE ONLY DEADLINE5PM 05/20/25DETAILS: Rocky (A868618); 8 Years; 51lbsABOUT: Rocky is two longtime companions who have lived his entire life outdoors with his brother Zues, primarily as property dogs. Rocky is an energetic, outgoing 8-year-old pup with a big personality and even bigger loyalty to the people he trusts. He`s more spunky and bold than his buddy Zeus, always the first to bark a greeting and full of zest for life. Raised as an outdoor dog, Rocky hasn`t had much formal training, but he does know a few tricks like “sit” and “paw”—and he’s always eager to show them off once he warms up to you.Rocky has lived most of his life with Zeus after they were brought home from friends. While the two have done well together, Rocky hasn’t had much interaction with other animals or new people, and he tends to be protective of his space. His previous home reported that he could be protective of his space with strangers and has shown that behavior by barking and attempting to guard his territory, which unfortunately led to a bite incident with a neighbor. Because of this, his former family made the difficult decision to surrender him.Rocky is a true escape artist and has proven he can scale 5–6 foot fences (brick and chain link), so he’ll need a secure, monitored environment. He’s not a fan of water or fireworks but shines in moments of calm connection with people he trusts.Rocky’s heart belongs to his people, and with structure, time, and the right environment, this bold boy can thrive. He’s looking for someone who understands that dogs like him aren’t broken—they just need someone willing to see them for who they really are.Since arriving at the shelter, Zeus has shown himself to be an easygoing, chill companion who enjoys lounging in the pool and responds well to handler guidance. Despite his initial nervousness, he’s been social and respectful with other dogs and is easy to walk with a calm, steady approach.Rocky has been a social and easygoing presence in the play yard with other dogs, showing gentle and playful engagement with other dogs after a bit of warm-up time. He pulls a bit walking, but overall has been an good boy with our staff and is eager to play. Zeus and Rocky cannot go to a home together. They will each need a well-secured backyard, strong and patient handlers, and continued training. They are not appropriate for public outings or homes with frequent guests unless managed with care (suc
