My story

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Not in VPDate into Rescue: 06/26/24 - Caliopy has been part of our SOS program until now.  Her foster mom has been working hard to show Caliopy (Callie) how wonderful life is when you trust people and now, in May 25, we feel Callie is ready for the next big step - a home of her own. Reason for being in rescue: breeder release/breeder is retiring Foster location: Foster Home in Greensboro NC Special Needs? Callie is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.  Weight: 15 lbs  Height: 12 in  Spayed/Neutered: Yes  Adoption Fee: $399  Fence needed? A physical fence (chain link or vinyl/wood privacy preferred) at least 4' high is a requirement for Callie's new home. What kind of home would be best for me? Beautiful Callie has slowly learned to trust people and she has found that we are Not Too Bad.  Now that she thinks humans are cool, we want to make sure her home will continue teaching her that partnerships between dogs and humans are awesome things.  If you have to work, Callie will understand but once you are home, she needs to know you want to spend time with her.  Callie is looking for an active home that will allow her the time she needs to bond with them without pushing her.  She is also looking for a home where she will get to bask in the attention of her humans.  Besides that fence and time with her people and some action like walks and rides, Callie also needs a canine companion, preferably a dog near to or at her size and somewhere between puppy hood and 6 years old.  Callie is a playful little girl. She loves playing with other dogs and with toys. She not only needs the playmate, but she needs a dog who can be a role model, a mentor who has been there and done that and knows how to be a pet.  Callie has learned from her foster brothers, and we think she need the stabilizing factor of another gregarious, well-balanced dog in her home and will need that for several more years.   Please also - Callie is beautiful but she has absolutely no experience with young children.  Young humans are often a bit loud and a bit busy.  We believe they will frighten her.  We're asking for homes with children no younger than 15 years old.   Callie has been equally accepting in her foster home of both foster mom and foster dad.  She would do well with a single adult or a couple.   What is my personality like? Callie was released to us from her breeder. Her breeder is one we enjoy working with but life in a breeder's home is very different from life in your home.  Caliopy's early life was a quiet country life.  Callie is one of those dogs for whom the transition from a life filled with dogs to play with and few humans to becoming a cherished pet is taking longer than most.  She will get there and there will always be parts of her personality that emerge where you will see the country background once again.  It is part of who she is.   She's extremely bright and would do well in training classes. She will need to learn her basic commands like sit, stay, down, come, etc. We think she will enjoy learning. She's fine when foster parents have human guests but doesn't want to interact with them and we don't push her. She will most likely get more and more social but might always have a smaller circle of friends.  She has a beautiful demeanor and a playful spirit, and we know will grow into a wonderful companion.  Callie was clean in her crate when she lived at the poodle farm.  Now that she is in foster, she is not crated.  Her foster mom would prefer a crate free home but only if you let her sleep in the bed.  Part of that successful bonding and breaking down of Callie's barriers has been the privilege of sleeping in the bed.  Sleeping to dogs is a social activity and now Callie knows she is a big part of the family. This we want to see continued for her.  Besides, she is a great snuggle buddy.   Callie is now an expert at leash walking.  She loves her daily exercise walks with her human mom.  It's both exercise and a chance to see the world.    When Callie feels safe and relaxed, her joyous personality emerges. We believe her playfulness will eventually extend to her adopter as well. Whether it takes a month, two months or another time frame, the reward in earning this sweet girl's trust and love will be well worth it. Remember, all good things come to those that wait, and Callie is most definitely a good thing.  How do I act when I first meet new people? Callie is wary of everything, including new people. She will not approach you on first meeting. She has a very loving heart, but having new people in her life is new to her and she must be certain you are that kind of person before she allows you to love on her.  Other tips and tidbits: We celebrate Callie's birthday as 04/29/2023. Please note, Callie has never met a cat face to face although she has seen them from a distance and seems unfazed. If you have a cat, we would need to figure out a way to introduce them to make sure all is well before canine and feline worlds collide.   House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. May 24, 2025, 9:36 pm
