My story

At SAAP, we hate to hear that one of our own is being returned! It’s so often for a lame or even dishonest excuse.  But in this case, it was literally a godsend for this AMAZING pup!    Introducing…… OWEN!!!!   Preciously, sweet Owen was adopted out of SAAP at 9 months old weighing 25lbs. He was recently returned at 1.5 years old weighing only 22lbs!! Its impossible for us to understand how someone neglects a puppy, let alone abuses them. And his return condition does warrant abuse. He was skin and bones, his white fur was stained yellow from malnutrition, his teeth looked like teeth of a 10 year old dog from malnutrition, his nails were overgrown, and the skin and fur on his tail was in desperate need of medication. For the past month, we’ve been fattening him up with nourishing food, giving him skin meds, bathing him, trimming his nails, and he had a dental cleaning. We’ve also been loving on him, teaching him to walk on a leash, to sit and wait- all good pack behaviors. He instantly loves you back, snuggles, adjusts well to new environments, and just wants to be your new best friend (and any other dog’s best friend as well)! What a lesson we can learn from him!! He could be so many other things, but instead, he just wants to be loved! He has been neglected, rejected, and taught to not trust, but here he is, the most trusting, snuggly, and loving little boy!! He is truly the perfect pup, and if we could keep him, we would, but then our fostering journey would need to end (we already have 4 dogs! Lol!)! And for every Owen out there, there’s a thousand more that need our help!    So here’s a little more about what makes Owen the PERFECT dog!!!   He’s healthy now and weighs 30+lbs!!  He’s still young, so plenty of lifetime memories to make with him!! He loves kids! He adores other dogs!! He’s used to walking on a leash or exploring a big fenced in back yard! He’s potty trained! He’s crate trained, but doesn’t like it. Even better though, he doesn’t need one! He’s never chewed on anything he shouldn’t!  He’s still playful with other dogs, but otherwise, is easy and low energy! He doesn’t bark much, so he’s relatively quiet!  Loves car rides and pup cups! He’s definitely one of the best snugglers, with people and other dogs!   Owen has come SO far and looks SO good now!! He finished his meds yesterday and shouldn’t need continuing medication. He’s ready!!! He’s REALLY ready to find his forever home! A loving home where he is cherished, protected, and treated like family! He deserves nothing less!!!   Apply now and start your new, fabulous life with Owen this weekend!      June 18, 2025, 6:40 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Owen, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
