My story

For more information about this Dane, please visit our website at https://rmgreatdane.org. Adoption Applications link can be found on the home page. Donut has spent several months settling into his foster home, and he’s been nothing short of a delight. A big, lovable marshmallow of a dog, Donut is calm, affectionate, and friendly with everyone he meets—kids, adults, other dogs, and even cats (on leash). He was previously a service dog and is extremely well-trained, responsive, and polite. Personality: &#239&#184&#143 Couch potato with occasional zoomies Velcro dog who loves to lean (and lean HARD!) Lazy and chill most of the day Friendly to all humans and animals Enjoys car rides Excellent with kids—especially fond of leaning on them! Training & Behavior: &#226&#156&#133 Crate trained&#226&#156&#133 Housetrained&#226&#156&#133 Trustworthy with free roam&#226&#156&#133 Knows commands in both English and German: “Sitz” (sit), “Platz” (down), “Komm” (come), “Bleib” (stay), “Nein” (no)&#226&#156&#133 Leash trained—generally easy, though he loves to mark&#226&#156&#133 No resource guarding—easy to take toys/food Gets on furniture (and brings the slobber with him!) Donut has some separation anxiety, especially if he’s left completely alone. He does well when another dog is present and would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time—or with a calm canine companion. Health: Donut likely has Wobbler’s Syndrome, a neurological condition affecting coordination. He takes Gabapentin (600mg twice daily) and manages well day to day. His symptoms include general clumsiness, a wobbly gait, and an occasional startle/yelp response. These episodes are rare and brief. Donut shouldn’t go on long walks or jump in/out of high vehicles—a ramp is a must for car rides. He does best on stable surfaces and prefers rugs on slippery floors. Lifestyle & Home Needs: Best in a home without a lot of stairs (or with carpeted ones) Great with large and small dogs Friendly with cats (based on on-leash interactions) Fantastic with kids (currently lives with and hosts many)‍&#226&#153&#130&#239&#184&#143 Thrives on calm companionship and lots of snuggles Heavy drooler—keep towels nearby! Donut’s ideal home has lots of human interaction, access to the outdoors for lounging, and maybe a doggy sibling for company. He’s incredibly social and happiest when surrounded by people—so if your home is full of love, visitors, and playmates, Donut will be in heaven. Bonus Quirks: Loves sunbathing in the yard Occasionally gets the zoomies and wrestles playfully Refuses to walk across one specific kitchen spot (a rug fixes this!) Purrs like a giant cat when happy Often found passed out with a stuffy in tow Donut didn’t need any adjustment time—he settled right in and has been a gentle, joyful presence from the start. He’s ready to lean into your heart and bring slobbery love to your home! More Info on Donut: Retired service dog Requires daily medication and ongoing care for mild Wobblers Crate trained: Yes  Housetrained:  Yes Good with children  Will be neutered 5/21 in rescue Plays well with dogs of all sizes Good with cats when tested on leash Walks great on leash Playful and Affectionate Mild energy and maybe a little lazy Special Needs: Needs daily medication and ongoing vet care for Wobbler’sMay 12, 2025, 10:03 am
