My story

Hi! My name is Nemo! I was rescued in Kahramanmaras, Turkey, by Help Street Cats and Dogs https://www.helpstreetcatsdogs.com/nemo, a local rescue that helps neglected, abused street cats and dogs.   Luckily for me, I came into their care in August 2024 after a kind stranger asked for their help. My condition was heartbreaking. One side of my mouth was completely missing, and maggots had infested the remaining part. Bleh! It was horrible. But at the same time, I was one of the fortunate ones to be rescued.   After months of intensive veterinary care and having seven teeth extracted, I have made remarkable progress. While the damage to my mouth is permanent, I have adjusted extremely well. Honestly, you wouldn’t know I had an injury at all! My potential adopters should be comfortable with my unique and of course, handsome appearance. My exposed mouth doesn't cause me any pain and doesn't interfere with my ability to eat or drink. Whew!   Now that we have that out of the way, let me tell you about my ameowzing purrsonality. I am fabulous! I have extremely energetic kitten behavior, I will run around the apartment chasing toy balls, springs, mice, anything that moves, all on my own whenever I feel bored or need to get some energy out.   My foster mom has a cat tree with a bowl that all of my toys are stored in. Naturally, I’m very smart since I’m a tuxedo and I will reach in and grab toys in his mouth from that bowl and play with them. I especially like to pick them up in my mouth, carry it somewhere else, drop it, then kick it around with my paws and chase after it; I am very easy to entertain!   I am very talkative, and like to meow for almost anything, it’s a mix of more "chirpy/squeaky" meows and more expressive meows. I'll meow while playing, meow when my foster mom looks at me, I meow for attention as I jump up on my foster mom’s desk, I meow when I wake up. I love to talk with you! But don’t worry, I am very polite and settle down when it’s time to sleep.   I am especially energetic in the evenings and sometimes later at night, depending on how much I played during the day. I love to take an afternoon nap. But when I’m not napping and I might be meowing for attention or playing on my own. When my foster mom sits on the couch, I like to join her and sometimes even doze off and take a little nap with her.   When I’m not enjoying playtime, I like to lounge on the windowsill and look out the window. I also like to climb on top of the high cabinets above the fridge. I’m an excellent “work from home” assistant, and when my foster mom is working, I will lounge on her desk and often sit on the mouse and keyboard. I am VERY helpful.   When I ask for attention/affection I LOVE to aggressively rub the side of his head against my foster mom’s hand.  I don’t really sit still very long for cuddles or anything, but I love head rubs and bumps. I can get a bit nibbly but the nibbles don't hurt, I purromise.   When it’s bedtime or nap time, I like to sleep in the bed by my foster mom’s legs. I even let you sleep in if you want to. I just go and entertain myself by chasing my toys.   Surprisingly, since coming from the streets, I’m not super food motivated, as in I won't gobble up all of his food at once, but I do enjoy the pate wet food and treats.   Overall, I’m really just a very friendly ball of energy who adjusted super quickly to my foster home and mom. I am VERY human-oriented and do need a lot of human social time and pets/affection.   I’ve been in foster with cats and cat-friendly dogs.
