My story

My name is Smiley and my story is a sad one. As you may know, shelters are euthanizing at an alarming rate and not only had I been severely attracted by a dog(s) and pregnant, I had ended up in one of them. Next, I ended up on the euthanasia list because I had scabs and because of my pregnancy. Luckily, Wags and Whiskers took me in. I was so traumatized, that every time my foster mom walked into my room, the first couple of weeks, I ran into the corner of my pen. With my foster’s patience and lots of treats, I opened up. I now let her pet me and pick me up, plus I still love treats. The best environment would be a quieter home. I am getting used to more and more sounds. I’m great with dogs and cats. My foster gives me lists of access to potty outside and I’m potty trained at her home. You will notice that I still have some missing hair from where I had been attacked. My foster noticed that I had lost almost all of my hair and it was falling out by the handfuls. So, Chico Pet Vet ran tests, I’m healthy, except a biopsy showed that I have what’s probably stress induced autoimmune condition that was probably caused by the stress from the attack and pregnancy. It appears that I’m getting better now. My hair has grown back nice and thick. The scars are starting to get hair to cover them up, although they may never be totally covered. I haven’t had any new scabs in several weeks. If you’re wondering how I got my name, it’s because the bite wounds on my face, formed what looked like a smile. I’ve had a rough life so far, so if you have patience and willing to give me time to acclimate, I will be very appreciative.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Smiley, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
