My story

Gemstone is currently in foster care and ready for adoption via our virtual process! Gemstone is a social, gentle and playful 2-year-old female mixed-breed dog who has stolen the hearts of all our staff here at the center! She originally came into Best Friends' custody through our partnership with the Navajo Nation's animal welfare programs, and spent time at our sanctuary in Utah before coming to our NYC Lifesaving Center. Her next destination? A loving home to call her own. Gem is is house-broken, does a wonderful "sit," and is well mannered on leash. She is exceptionally affectionate and greets strangers- including the children she has met at the center- warmly and politely. She has done well during a few supervised encounters with other dogs, so she wouldn't say no to a doggy sibling! Since coming to the center, Gemstone's favorite activities include cobbing stuffed toys, stretching out all the way on top of staff and camping out in the lobby to greet visitors. Gemstone is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and has had preventative treatments to ensure she is ready for her new home.
