My story

Meet Doug: Your Future Best Friend! Say hello to Doug, a sweet and gentle pup rescued from Texas alongside his three brothers and sister. After being found abandoned, Doug has been thriving in his foster home in Northern Virginia, learning the joys of a safe, loving environment with plenty of food, cozy naps, and endless snacks. His mysterious sibling, Emu, may be living the high life at a Texas bird sanctuary, but Doug’s ready to find his forever home! This mild-mannered boy started off shy, spending his first days tucked under a daybed for comfort. Now, he’s blossomed into a couch-loving snuggler who adores being near his people. Doug is mostly housebroken (with just a couple of accidents due to schedule changes) and has only shown interest in chewing dog toys—phew! He’s learning to trust and loves to cuddle, especially when it’s time to roll in the grass or snooze on the bed or couch. Once bedtime hits, he’s out for the night, dreaming of his next adventure. Doug is a peaceful soul who’s cautious around strangers and children but warms up beautifully with slow introductions. He’s a dog-friendly charmer, getting along wonderfully with his foster brother, Logan, and quickly bonding with temporary foster pup, Honey, during a walk. Food aggression? Not this guy—he’s all about playtime and sharing the love! Doug’s also living with two dog-savvy kitties, Copper and Berry. While he’s curious about Copper (who’s not impressed), he respectfully gives Berry his space. Fun Facts About Doug: * Loves: Rolling in the grass, sleeping on soft surfaces, and pleasing his people. * Not a fan of: Crates or car rides (he gets a bit nauseous, but his foster is working on it). * Quirks: Very particular about where he does his business—Doug’s got standards! * Personality: Sweet, peaceful, and a little cautious, but oh-so-loving once he trusts you. From Doug’s Foster:
“Fair warning: one look at Doug, and you’ll be head over heels! He’s a heart-stealer with a gentle soul.” Doug might make an appearance at the Frederick Meet and Greet at the end of June, depending on his car ride progress. Ready to give Doug the forever home he’s dreaming of? Come meet this lovable pup and see if he’s the perfect addition to your family! For more details, contact us or check for updates on the Frederick event. 🐾

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Doug, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
