My story

Ashton arrived at ACCT Philly on May 5, 2025, after being found running loose near Allegheny Avenue, wearing a thick green collar but without a microchip. Despite arriving with old bite wounds on his face and neck, Ashton has shown nothing but resilience, gentleness, and an eager-to-please spirit. Ashton is a sweet, friendly boy who thrives on affection and companionship. He absolutely loves hotdogs and cream cheese, making him wonderfully food-motivated and easy to work with. He enjoys physical affection and tolerates handling better than most, happily leaning in for pets and praise. Ashton greets visitors with a wiggly body and wagging tail, and he walks beautifully on leash after an initial burst of enthusiasm. He enjoys exploring the outdoors, sniffing around the yard, and simply being in the company of people. Volunteers have described him as the “goodest boy,” always excited for adventure but gentle and patient in every interaction. Ashton would make a wonderful addition to a home ready to offer continued love, structure, and follow-up care for his healing wounds. Behavioral Notes 5/13 per volunteer- Walked Ashton this evening. He did well getting in and out of his kennel. Walked well on his leash and took guided direction well. It was clear he would love to be out on a long walk or slow run. When offered a treat, he was jumping up but never aggressive just excited. Went back into his kennel and sat nicely. Per volunteer 5/10: Ashton is the goodest boy who loves to explore the outdoors. He greeted me with a wiggly tail and excitement at his crate. He allowed me to leash him with ease and walked like a true gentleman. I don’t think his cute little butt stopped wiggling the entire time we were together. He really enjoyed roaming around the big yard and getting all the sniffs! He’s the best! 05/07/2025 Per Behavior Team: Approached the kennel and he was standing, wiggling and loose body. He was easy to leash and pulled mildly. Once outside he walked on a loose leash. He allowed all handling with tail down and wagging, ears back, loose body. He solicited attention from the handler and took treats gently unless they are withheld, then he will jump and try to grab the treat from your hand. He was easy to return to his crate and remove the leash. Gold 05/05/2025 Ashton is a very sweet friendly boy, allowed vaccinations and physical exam with minimal restraint. Loves hotdogs and cream cheese, fairly food motivated. Patient seems to really enjoy physical affection and will tolerate handling more than most. Sweet Boy!
