My story

Onyx is a female Yorkie/Shih Tzu. She is 1-2 years old and weighs 10 lbs. Onyx is spayed, vaccinated including rabies. She tested heartworm negative and is on monthly preventive. Onyx is ready for adoption. Onyx was owner surrendered very pregnant to a western Arkansas shelter during the super cold time in January when her owner couldn’t provide adequate shelter for her. She was placed with a foster to prepare and have her puppies safely. The puppies are all adopted and now it is Onyx’s turn. Onyx is a sweet girl. She needs a little time to warm up to new people (hours not days) and may take longer with some men. Onyx is very skeptical of very young children. She is playful with people (older children are fine) and dogs and toys. We don’t think Onyx had much of a puppyhood so she is still very puppy-like. She is crate trained and does well with potty with a little owner awareness. She is working on leash walking. Onyx will let you know when she wants attention. Over-doing the attention early on may contribute to a bit of separation anxiety, but we can give you some guidance about how to start off successfully with her. Overall Onyx is a doll and will make someone a wonderful companion and friend. She needs a 4 ft or taller fence and outdoor supervision. No doggie door. Onyx would prefer a furry friend. Adoption fee is $350. Must apply: Application for adoption is located at http://fs19.formsite.com/JeffTarpleyRescue/application/index.html Jeff Tarpley Rescue 903-490-2959 We require all potential adopters to submit an application. We only accept applications for a specific dog you are interested in adopting. We do not keep waiting lists or files of general applications for dogs we might get later. The online application can be found at this location: http://fs19.formsite.com/JeffTarpleyRescue/application/index.html A completed adoption application and, upon approval, an adoption contract is required. Jeff Tarpley Rescue welcomes applications from homeowners, renters, and condo or apartment dwellers. At a minimum, a phone interview will be conducted and a vet reference checked before the applicant may meet their preferred pet. We adopt primarily in the 4 states of the ArkLaTexOma. Applicants willing to travel to Texarkana will also be considered with additional requirements to qualify as approved.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Onyx in Texarkana TX, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
