My story

My foster writes: I'm Harper, the sweetest girl you'll meet. I enjoy being by your side and make the best companion. I'm good on the leash and will listen when you call my name even if I'm distracted by other dogs. I enjoy laying on the couch and riding in the car. I need to be the only dog in the house. With my foster I've learned to stop jumping on people when I'm excited. I'm eager to learn and brush up on my manners through positive reinforcement. I enjoy lots of attention and praise. I would make a great family dog.My #BoroughBreak Buddy Writes: On my borough break yesterday, I had the pleasure of spending the day with this amazing soul. She enjoys walks in the park, car rides, takes treats gently. Harper also is leash trained and walks by your side with minimal to no pulling. Throughout the entire time we were with her, she never showed any signs of aggressive behavior towards adults and children. It was easy for us to get her in and out of my car. She enjoyed the ride and was very relaxed. She is house broken and will let you know when she needs to go out. As an added bonus she loved to give kisses. It is my fondest wish that Harper finds her forever home. Harper is the perfect embodiment of warmth and affection. Her love for people-whether adults or children-and her gentle nature shine brightly. She has a beautiful way of making everyone around her feel cherished and at ease. With such a loving personality, Harper surely brings light into every room she enters. Her forever home will be so lucky to welcome her.A volunteer writes: Do you think if I took two bites out of Harper's love handles anyone would notice? Just a couple nibbles? She's so chonky and thicc, I'm obsessed with this pitato!! I admire her curves and wiggles as we walk along, her little no show socks on all four feet and skunk stripe on her face are just the icing on the cake. Truth be told, Harper doesn't care how much I praise her physique, the ONLY thing on her mind is when I'm going to give her a new toy. Her obsession with stuffies rivals my infatuation with her and we are neck in neck in a "who loves what more" competition. I've learned not to give her a new toy until we return to the shelter because if I do it before then, she will pull to return to her kennel as quickly as possible to play with and admire it.Harper first came to us via police 3 years ago when they found her wandering the streets. She was returned to her guardian not too long after that. Most recently, she was found again as a stray by a good samaritan in August. She has been quite the toy connoisseur with staff too, parading and tossing her toys around the room. During her greet with a female dog, she had a soft frame and wagging tail. She approached the other dog gently and creates distance when she becomes uncomfortable. Due to some fearful and anxious behaviors, Harper will do best in an experienced home. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 67 Age: 7yrs 8mths 2wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Harper, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
