My story

Meet Buster, a small boy who finds himself so terrified in this big scary shelter. Buster was found on the streets of Philadelphia where he was understandably defensive and very hesitant of handling. The kennel life has been scary for this poor boy and you can usually find him curled up in the back of his kennel on a bed. When first approaching Buster, he may be tense and unsure, but if you bring some treats and a slow approach he becomes much more open. Where we really see Buster shine is in the company of other dogs! Buster has had a tucked tail for most of his shelter visit, but we see the tail wags come out when he joins play group! We think he would really thrive with a dog sibling to play with and bring out his confidence. Buster is now available for adoption at ACCT Philly- you can meet him any day from 10am-6pm! Behavior Eval 5/11/25: Kennel presence: When I approached Busters kennel he was sitting at the back of it, shaking when I approached. I tossed some pepperoni pieces into his kennel and he came forward to eat them. He was still shaking slightly with some lip licking. I tossed bits of pepperoni in for another minute or so, then slowly opened the door which he allowed. Let him sniff the leash and then leashed him with a big loop- body language was much looser after getting treats and didn’t seem to mind this. Leash: A bit skittish when he walks when he comes across sudden movements and sounds. Handling: He is super treat motivated and actually takes treats super gently! In the play yard was a bit standoffish from me with his ears tucked back, but mostly loose body language and tail. He sniffed around but would come back to me for treats and took them right from my hand. Did not seek out any handling from me. He showed some interest in toys and would gently trot after them, but then lost interest. He met a larger female dog through the fence and immediately did tail wags and had a very loose body. He was trying to join her in her play yard. Took him to playgroup to see if he loosened up and he did amazing! Very wiggly and loose after a few minutes and attempted to play with multiple dogs. Gave very slight corrections when needed, and took a correction when he tried to mount one female dog. Seems like he would do well with a confident dog sibling. No issues going back into kennel. Color: Blue due to fear Per Medical 5/6/25: Was very tense and scared during intake exam. Allowed muzzling and all handling needed, go slow Per Medical 5/5/25: Couldn't check in due to behavior, (tense body, lip licking, whale eyes), will start on traz and tta ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.
