Socialization/training: Darby is a social butterfly! She would love to go to obedience class to learn and to provide mental stimulation. She loves long walks, would be a great jogging partner, and would love to go on hikes. Because of her energy level, she would do best in a home with children who are over the age of 10 year old to avoid her knocking over a smaller child. She is still a work in progress with regards to house training. Crate trained: Yes Leash trained: She will need more work on leash walking. Activity Level: Darby has the high energy level of a typical young setter. She is still a bit shy of new things but warms up quickly. She loves to give hugs! Fence: A fence will be required for her please. This sweet girl needs to be able to run and “point” out every squirrel in the yard! Behavior: When you can get her switch to turn off she is the biggest cuddle bug ever! She is active and loves new adventures, so she needs to be able to burn off her energy daily. Medical History: Darby is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on monthly heartworm and flea and tick medication. She has no known health issues. Her next leishmaniasis test is due in January 2026. This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster comments: Darby is the perfect sized little pocket setter! Once she came out of her shell and her personality has started to shine, she showed us that she is the sweetest, most energetic little girl you will ever meet. I am an older but very active lady and she is a lot for me to handle, so Darby would love to have an active person or family that can show her how fun it is to live in the good ole USA. She needs someone that is home a lot or works from home to work on house training and leash training with her, as she needs consistency to learn. I have cats, so house training has been a problem for me. She is great in her crate and this girl loves to eat!! She is very smart and will be fun to train. Foster Location: Perry, GA Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000-mile distance between adopters & foster home. If interstate transport is provided for your adopted dog, there will be an additional charge of $50.00 for the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (“Health Certificate”). Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000-mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000-mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far Western states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions. ##2287166##
