My story

Attributes -Adult-only home preferred -crate trained -good on car rides -housetrained -low energy/chill/couch potato -shy -single dog home -snuggly -will potty on leash Paul Bagel is a very sweet boy looking for his furever home. He is a beagle/basset hound mix. His foster family describes him as very quiet and sweet, a true gentle soul. He has been working on potty training and has been doing well; however, he doesn’t seem to let his foster family know, so therefore he needs to continue working on a routine to reinforce going outside to go potty. He knows basic commands such as sit and stay. He is very food motivated–cheese and training treats are his favorites! Paul is crate-trained but loves lounging and relaxing on the couch with comfy blankets and toys. Paul would do best in a home, being the only dog, as he thrives on attention and love. He currently lives with a 2-year- old golden retriever; however, due to his ongoing needs of gaining confidence, feeling less fearful, and dealing with separation anxiety, the foster family recommends that he be the only animal in the household at this time. In the future, once he can adjust on his own and is comfortable, the possibility of getting him a companion or friend could be revisited. He had a rough start to his early life and was found as a stray. He was very fearful and skittish when he first came to his foster home. With the help of a behaviorist who was assigned through Midwest BREW and constant positive reinforcement, praise, and time, he has developed trust with his foster family. He is less fearful, although still very cautious and hesitant around new environments, people, and animals. But once he has time to get to know you, he is very sweet and kind. He will need continued training for the fearful behavior and for his separation anxiety. He is worth every single bit of time that you give him, he is truly a sweet boy. He is looking for a family that is either a retired couple or a couple with no children under 10 years old that has the time, patience, and love that he needs so desperately. He will, in turn, give you many years of love. If you want to be Paul’s new family, please contact your Midwest BREW counselor. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

If you have any questions or would like to adopt PAUL BAGEL, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
