My story

Name, age, breed: Dakota, 2 years, mixed breed (medium size)Likes: Attention from people, affection like cuddles and scratches, being active, treats, going for walksDislikes: Being under-stimulated. She needs exercise and attention every dayWhat would be the ideal home? An active home! One with her humans around more often would be great too.Good with other cats? Small animals are not recommended.Good with dogs? She gets along with some dogs. Similar age and energy level could work.Good with children? Dog-savvy children over 10.Temperament: Extremely sweet and loving. High energy and playful with her toys.Motivators? Treats!Any commands? Sit, lie down, shakeHouse trained? Yes, although she may have a few accidents when settling into a new routine and home.Crate trained? YesHow long will it take Dakota to settle into a new environment? 3-3-3 Rule:First 3 days: Dakota may feel overwhelmed and unsure—she could whine, pull, or push boundaries. Give her space and time to decompress in a quiet room with her bed, food, and toys.3 weeks: She will start to settle in and show more of her personality. Expect to see both her sweet side and behavior challenges. Positive training and consistent routines are key.3 months: Dakota should feel at home and be more comfortable with her routine, including walks, meals, and enrichment.Any special needs or traits an adopter should know? Dakota is really looking for a loving family that is willing to play with her. She is working on leash and obedience training, and her adopters should continue these with. Medical: currently on a urinary diet If you think Dakota is the one for you—fill out an application today!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Dakota, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
