My story

ABOUT CHANCE Chance is a 1-year-old shepherd mix with a big heart! He came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for him. Shelter life has been a bit confusing for Chance, so he may take some time to warm up at first. However, he absolutely loves other dogs and really comes out of his shell when he’s around canine friends! Chance enjoys exploring on walks and bouncing around our fenced fields. Once he’s comfortable with you, he becomes incredibly loving and affectionate. He’s looking for an owner who can offer him patience and grace as he learns that the world isn’t such a scary place. Let me start off by saying he is the sweetest little baby ever!! He definitely is a shy and nervous boy but we were able to get him to warm up throughout our day. We took him to our house at first and let him explore (he is super nosy and curious), then we went to the quiet park to walk around instead and Chance had the time of his life!! He loves the outdoors, and once he gets more comfortable being outside he’ll be a perfect walking/running companion. After that we went back home, where he had the best nap cuddled up. Then finished the day off with a pup cup!!!! Chance is a big fan of Starbucks! He really is the sweetest boy ever and I think once he becomes more comfortable he will be an amazing addition to any family!" - Alexandra "Mr. Chance is super scared of getting into cars for some reason, but once in, he is the perfect passenger! He is a very intuitive little guy and although normally super shy, he knew I was sad today and came out of his shell in order to give me some kisses and snuggles! Chancy pants LOVES toys and had a blast running around chasing his toys today. Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
