My story

Please contact Lowell Nelson (lowelln@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.Oh Sandy! SANDY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:    Sandy      Best Guess for Breed:   Lab/Yellow Lab   Best Guess for Age:    4 1/2 years as of February 2025      Gender:   Female Approximate Weight:    56 lbs Gets Along With: Sandy does well with other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living At: DC area foster home Special Adoption considerations:  Sandy had some problems with her hip, so she had surgery this weekend (15 June) to help with this.  After the surgery she now has recovery and rehab needs.  She is still available for adoption during this time.  Please reach out to her adoption coordinator (email at the bottom) if you have questions!  Sandy is Looking For: I'm well out of the puppy yips, so I know what's most important in life: Giving and getting love, and knowing where I belong! What I want most of all is to have my own family, to be under my own roof. My wish list also includes nice sniffy walks, naps, sunbathing in the yard, lots and lots of snuggles, and making new pup and people pals. I promise lots of adoring gazes and tail wags and loyal companionship for all my days in return! What My Foster Says About Me: Sandy has spent time in two foster homes.  She is just such a fantastic dog. She is over 50 pounds but is generally a gentle player, so she's really lovely when playing with my 8-lb and 19-lb dogs.  She's really good in the home! She keeps herself occupied with toys or by simply napping when I'm working. (She loves carrying around squeaky stuffies in her mouth and playing with them - it is so cute.) She hasn't chewed on anything unauthorized. I have left her uncrated, free roam, with my two others when I'm out of the home - she's great.  She sleeps quietly in her crate overnight. But I allow her up with me when I'm napping on the sofa or the bed - and I can confirm that she is a champion snuggler who is all about loving her humans.  Although generally relaxed in the home, she loves walks, likes to play, and looks forward to active pursuits!   Heartworm Information: Sandy was heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  Sandy has completed the treatment and exercise restriction phase, and is awaiting her six month follow-up.  Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.  Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life! Please visit us online at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.  BE A FOSTER!!! Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org! BE A SPONSOR!!!! Sponsors help Lucky Dog support the many dogs we save.  To learn more about sponsorship, please contact info@luckydoganimalrescue.org. June 16, 2025, 9:51 pm
