Ever wonder what it’s like to have a nose that’s basically a built-in GPS for chicken treats? Meet Hot Dog, the 10-year-old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix who’s got that superpower and then some. Despite being a little vision impaired, this curious and playful fellow approaches life with the enthusiasm of a puppy and the wisdom of a seasoned explorer. Sweet and affectionate, Hot Dog loves making new doggy friends and enjoys leisurely neighborhood walks where his nose is always hard at work investigating every intriguing scent. If you’re ready for a quirky, loving companion who’s equal parts detective and cuddle expert, Hot Dog is here to sniff out your heart. ** Want to follow Hot Dog's journey on Instagram? Go to @seniordoggofosterhood ** Here's some notes from his foster: As Hot Dog’s lucky foster, I’m happy to report that he is settling nicely into my household. He gets along fabulously with the resident dog and loves to snuggle next to me on the couch. While still decompressing from all the recent changes, he has shown a little bit of his personality, rolling around in the warm dirt and grass in the backyard, wagging his tail when outdoors, occasionally letting you know when he hears suspicious sounds, and letting you know he will enjoy pets on the head but only after you’ve gained his full trust. Hot Dog is a dapper dude sporting a rich creamy coat, perky ears, and cute little feet with the plumpest toe beans. What he lacks in vision, he makes up with his excellent hearing and curious pink snoot. Since his glossy eyes can’t see well he doesn’t go on walks for distance; rather he likes to waddle around slowly and sniff all the sniffs! He also seems fairly happy in a dog stroller and in a sling. With his short little leggies and his vision impairment, he will need to be carried up and down stairs, which shouldn’t be hard since he’s a lithe 9lbs. Hot Dog’s appetite is decent and he likes his JFFT, chicken (duh!), cheese, and even some vegetables including orange bell pepper — the last which he eats with a satisfying toothy crunch. He sleeps through the night on my bed and rides in the car nicely side by side with my dog. As far as potty training he’s seems to do well being brought out on a regular schedule. He was left home alone for several hours with my pup, where he was observed to be sleeping under a blanket on the doggy cam. Hot Dog would do well in a patient household who is willing to go at his pace. He is an incredibly sweet dog and already making strides in the trust department.
