My story

We are obsessed with Abby and we know you will be too! Abby is estimated to be 1-2 years old and is the epitome of a sweet girl. She is quick to make friends with everyone she meets and one look into her big brown eyes and you can't help but fall in love. She seems like she has had a rough past, but she is eager for love and a fresh start. Abby is a petite girl and only weighs about 37lbs (perfect to fit in your lap in her opinion). Abby came to us from a crowded Central California shelter. We don't know the exact circumstances of how she ended up at the shelter, but she was super stressed and shut down there. We knew we had to help her and give her a chance at a great life, and she has been thriving in foster care and showing us just how resilient dogs can be. We can't say enough great things about Abby! She's gentle, affectionate, loyal, and has the happiest smile. She immediately loves every person she meets and will quickly make herself comfy in your lap. She thrives on human attention and could spend all day getting pets if she could. Abby is a very well-mannered girl and does well hanging out on her bed while her foster parents work from home. She is a very mellow girl for her age and enjoys her strolls around the neighborhood and lots of sunbathing. She has been a rockstar learning all of her basic manners and needs a family dedicated to continuing her training. Abby has done well living with another large dog, but wouldn't mind at all being your one and only pup. Abby seems like she might do well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Abby seems like she could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 10 years and older. Abby has been doing great with her housetraining, but her new family should expect a few accidents when she is adjusting to a new environment and routine. Abby isn't the biggest fan on her crate, but has done well sleeping through the night on a dog bed in the bedroom. She also would be more than happy to sleep in bed if you let her. Abby doesn't like being left alone and needs a family who won't have to leave her alone, or has the time to train with her to help her fell comfortable being left home. Abby would benefit from a dental in the near future as she has some teeth that need to be removed. She appears to have lost a few teeth, but dental x-rays should be done to determine if the whole teeth are gone. Abby's new family should be ready for the financial responsibility for this procedure. Abby is such an amazing girl and we know a family just as amazing as her is out there. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and are given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age.
