My story

**$465 in pledges to any rescue that may pull!** Chicken Nugget ACCT-A-218795 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Chicken Nugget must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Sunday, May 18th at 10AM. Should Chicken Nugget’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal. Chicken Nugget is an approximately 3 year old male mixed breed dog that came into the shelter when he was surrendered by his owner. His owner stated that they found Chicken Nugget on the street and could not care for him any longer. They said that he got along well with their dog and their cats, and would guard his high value food. Chicken Nugget’s owner listed the following about him: -gets along with cats -gets along with dogs -likes to play -okay boundaries -wants to be alpha -housebroken -crate trained knows "crate" command -food aggression -guards cage -prefers harness for walks -long lead -pulls sometimes -reactive to other dogs (curious) -will run away!! -likes balls and hard treats -loves fish and cheese -pees on trash -very active -knows "sit" and "wait" -very tolerant of people and touch -baths (tolerant) -loves daily walks -destroys his own bedding -easy to train -whines but isn't big on barking indoors when he hears noise -great in car -loves pup cups -hates fruits and veggies -still trying to understand toys (loves balls) -loves to hike -will alert when hungry -knows "potty" as bathroom -will stand by door and wait to be let out -better with dogs his size At the shelter, Chicken Nugget has made friends with both staff and volunteers, has participated in playgroup, and has not shown and signs of guarding. Here’s what his shelter friends had to say about him: Chicken Nugget arrived at ACCT Philly on April 27, 2025, as a walk-in owner surrender. He had originally been found as a stray and cared for in a home for about a month, where he lived alongside another dog and two cats. During that time, he showed himself to be an active, fun-loving boy who got along well with both dogs and cats. His finder ultimately decided to surrender him in hopes that Chicken Nugget could find a home that better matched his energy and needs. Chicken Nugget is a spirited, social, and very playful dog who thrives on activity and interaction. He enjoys daily walks, hikes, playing with balls, and exploring the world around him. He is housebroken, crate-trained, and knows several commands, including "sit," "wait," "potty," and "crate." Volunteers describe him as an absolute ham who charms everyone with his expressive eyes and happy demeanor. While Chicken Nugget loves people and is tolerant of handling and touch, he has a strong "I'm the boss" energy and would do best as the only dog or with other confident, like-minded dogs. He has displayed some food and crate guarding in his prior home, though no guarding behaviors have been seen in the shelter environment. For this reason, he is recommended for an adult-only home or one with children ages 10 and up, and adopters are encouraged to continue positive training and management. Chicken Nugget would make a fantastic companion for an active family ready to offer him structure, fun adventures, and lots of love. He sucked me in with his sad eyes in his kennel so I absolutely needed to spend time with him. Once we were outside, he could have cared less if I was there! Anytime he would see another dog, he would immediately try to pull me over to say hello. He definitely is a strong puller on the leash but easily redirectable. He met another dog through the fenced cold club area and his tail didn’t stop wiggling the entire time. He was a pure joy to be around. 04/30/2025 Resource guarding tests: Toy – no interest Nylabone – no interest Food (wet) – I approached from the backside as he was eating, and pet him on his back and side. He continued eating and did not slow or quicken his speed. Tail down, not wagging. Was able to pet his head and front shoulder as well with no change in speed either. No guarding seen. Edible bone – no interest 04/29/2025 Corrects, social, steerable, tolerant, selective barrier reactivity to certain dogs, initially was muzzled because of previous owner notes stating dog reactivity. Medical Notes 05/01/2025 — Tech Exam: Canine URI Shelter-acquired upper respiratory infection diagnosed. Started on doxycycline and monitored for resolution. 04/27/2025 — Vet Exam: Intake - Medical Weight: 52.8 lbs Body Condition Score: 5 – Ideal ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
