My story

Update: James’s foster recently reached out to share some wonderful news—he is thriving and adjusting beautifully to life in a home environment. He has begun to form a bond with his female caretaker, which is a testament to his capacity for connection and trust. James has also expanded his social circle; he no longer has any preferences regarding the size or gender of the dogs he interacts with. The most heartwarming development is his overwhelming joy when playing with other dogs. This activity is not just fun for him; it’s a transformative experience that promotes healing. James would truly flourish in a home with a dog companion, as being around other dogs helps him learn and grow in ways that resonate deeply with his journey. Meet James, a charming 18-pound mini tan poodle born in April 2023. While he may be a bit shy, James is an observant soul who takes in the world around him with quiet curiosity. His attentive nature makes him a wonderful listener, always intrigued by the sounds of life that surround him. Though he is naturally cautious around most people, James has a special preference for men and would thrive in a home with teenagers rather than younger children. He gets along well with other dogs, showing a fondness for females. While he is already trained to use pee pads but still refining his potty training skills. Transitioning to life inside a home is a monumental shift for James, who has spent the majority of his life as a "mill dog." Many mill dogs have never experienced the warmth and comfort of a loving home, and the first few days can be daunting as they adjust to new sights, sounds, and textures. It's crucial to be mindful of their instincts, as many can be flight risks—always secure your companion with a reliable leash and a martingale collar when outside, and be cautious with open doors. While some mill dogs adapt quickly and become loving companions almost instantly, others may take time to develop trust due to their past experiences devoid of love and kindness. However, with patience and understanding, they inevitably flourish. James is now ready to find his forever home, a place where he can truly shine and become the remarkable companion he was always meant to be. By choosing to adopt James, you will not only be giving him a chance at a loving life but also gaining a unique bond with a dog who has triumphed over adversity. Allow James's gentle spirit and kind heart to enrich your life, promising you a deep and lasting friendship. Embrace this opportunity to make a difference—James is waiting for a loving forever home, and he could be the perfect addition to your family.
