My story

There’s something wonderfully wonky about Woody.He’s a nearly two-year-old, 40-pound hound with the earnest soul of a poet and the coordination of a carnival inflatable. You know the ones -- those bendy tube men who twist and flop in front of car dealerships? That’s Woody when he spots a person. He does this delighted little dance -- part bird-of-paradise courtship, part gravity experiment -- before gathering his courage and stumbling sideways to say hello. It’s not smooth, but it's endearing.Despite his happy-go-lucky heart, Woody’s still learning the ropes of confidence. He’s cautious at first, unsure if you’re safe. But give him a minute or two, and you’ll be gently rubbing his soft ears while he closes his eyes in bliss. His fur might look a little scruffy from a distance, but up close, it’s all velvet and warmth.He adores other dogs -- his best friend right now is a 16-pound little guy he checks on constantly. When Small Fry cries, Woody rubs up against the fence, pokes his nose through, and delivers soft, reassuring kisses. He’s a caretaker, a companion, and a comfort -- and he’s still just a pup.Woody is neat and gentle, never destructive, and he carries a sweetness that feels like a gift. He's heartworm-positive, but Animal Aid covers the cost of treatment, even after you bring him home. What he really needs is someone to believe in him, to help him grow into his own joy.Woody is waiting at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton.
