My story

Meet HEEMANG – A Gentle Boy with a Brave Heart Heemang, whose name means "hope", is a 3-year-old, 40 lb (18 kg) ivory-colored Jindo mix. He has been through a difficult past but is learning to trust again — and he's doing beautifully. At first, Heemang may be shy and take some time to adjust, but once he feels safe, his sweet and affectionate personality shines through. He is calm, observant, and quietly loving — the kind of companion who will gently stay by your side. Living Situation & Social Behavior: Children: Lives with kids and gets along well, though he doesn’t usually initiate interaction. Dogs: He enjoys the company of other dogs, especially those with a calm temperament. He can feel overwhelmed by overly energetic or assertive dogs, so slow and gentle introductions are best. Cats: Lives peacefully with a cat. He shows curiosity but is not aggressive. Training & Habits: House-trained: Yes, fully house-trained and prefers doing his business outdoors. Crate-trained: In progress. He’s still a bit fearful of enclosed spaces but is improving. Leash-walking: Doing well but can get startled by loud noises or busy environments. Reactivity: Non-reactive to people and dogs once given time to adjust. Handling: Accepts touch and handling, though still cautious with unfamiliar humans. Barking: Rarely barks, but may join in if other dogs are barking. Feeding: No appetite issues. Eats a mix of dry and wet food. Destructive behavior: None. Car rides: Handles moderate car rides well. Ideal Home: Heemang would thrive in a home with a yard where he can relax and explore. He would also benefit from living with another dog, ideally one that is similar in size and temperament. While he can adapt to apartment living, access to outdoor space would make him happiest. Rescue Story: Heemang was raised in a residential neighborhood by an elderly man who intended to use him for meat. He was rescued just in time from a place where other dogs were being slaughtered. Understandably, he carries trauma from his past, but with patience and love, he’s opening up more each day. After spending time in a boarding facility, he recently moved into a foster home. He now lives peacefully with three other dogs, a cat, and two children — and is adjusting better than anyone could have hoped. Why Heemang? Because he is the definition of quiet strength. Heemang has endured, survived, and still chooses to love. All he needs now is a family who will see the hope in his eyes and welcome him home. Could that be you?

If you have any questions or would like to adopt HEEMANG, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
