My story

When Mission first arrived in NYC, it was clear he had been through a lot. Overwhelmed by all the new sights and sounds, he kept his body low to the ground, tail tucked tightly between his legs, and shied away from touch, seeking shelter under any piece of furniture he could find. Even stepping out of a doorway felt scary for him, and getting into the elevator seemed almost impossible. We gave Mission the time and space he needed to feel safe, allowing him to come to us on his own terms. By the end of Day 2, something beautiful began to happen—Mission started leaning in for affection. He wanted to join us on the couch but didn’t quite know how. One day, with a burst of bravery, he scrambled his way up and instantly transformed into the best cuddling buddy anyone could ask for. Outside of mealtime, potty breaks, chewing sessions, and a little bit of gentle play, Mission is happiest simply curling up next to his favorite human. He is deeply affectionate, quietly loyal, and wonderfully easygoing once he trusts you. We recently took Mission on a weekend getaway upstate, hoping the slower pace and fresh air would help him continue opening up. Although he was anxious at first during the car ride—unable to fully relax—by the second day, he was curling up next to his foster mom, finding comfort and reassurance by her side. By Day 3, Mission surprised us again by getting in and out of the car with minimal hesitation, showing just how quickly he can build confidence with patience and repetition. Mission is a timid and shy boy at first, but once he feels safe, he blossoms into a brave, endearing companion. Every small victory—whether it’s hopping into a car, mastering an elevator ride, or nuzzling closer for a cuddle—feels huge with him, and witnessing his growth is truly rewarding. He would thrive in a calm, stable environment with patient humans who are willing to move at his pace and continue building his confidence. Mission’s favorite thing in the world isn’t toys or treats (though he does love chicken!)—it’s curling up next to his person, snoring softly, and simply being close. If you’re looking for a quiet, soulful best friend who will love you with all his heart once he trusts you, Mission might just be the perfect match. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We are unable to contact every applicant for every dog.  We will select the best applicant for each dog, based on the dogs needs. Waldos Rescue Pen is a 501c3 whose primary focus is rescuing dogs from the euthanasia list from high kill shelters throughout the United States and Korea. ##2367283##
