Anya is a 1 year old Collie / Husky mix ready to find an active & loving home that will embrace her gentle, joyful, silly spirit! Anya was rescued from a remote Northern Manitoba community where there’s no access to veterinary care, and was saved just before a scheduled dog cull. In her short year of life, Anya already birthed puppies, was struck by a vehicle, and endured many unknown hardships while alone in the wilderness. She arrived to Ontario exhausted and timid, but in a few short days she began to sparkle again under the warm glow of constant love & adoration. After taking in the everyday comforts of “inside” and a visit to the groomer to remove her matted hair, Anya blossomed into a joyful puppy again. Her grooming session also revealed an injury from being struck by a car or snowmobile. Anya’s hip had been broken in three places and her leg fractured, but she recovered well and underwent a successful surgery after arriving in Ontario to ensure she’s strong & functional for the rest of her life. Now, she’s ready for the final chapter in her rescue adventure: finding a forever family that will match the deep love this sweet girl has to give. Anya is a large size dog at about 55-60lbs. Her Husky-like qualities comes out in her penchant for vocalizing her emotions, but it’s her Collie traits that really shine, particularly in her high energy and her attention to stalking squirrels and birds! At first Anya is a tad shy with new people, though her curiosity and desire for affection always win out. Anya is exceptionally silly & sweet once she feels safe and quickly turns into a huge suck that will plop right on top of you, snuggling in as close as possible with her pack mates. Anya loves car rides and to be brought along on family adventures, quickly jumping into the car without hesitation. The only thing that Anya has shown an active aversion towards is a vacuum, which she is CERTAIN will swallow her up if she gets too close! Besides the “vicious vacuum monster”, Anya is a model pup. She’s highly food motivated with a great appetite and loves chewing bones of all sorts. She is crate trained and is quite happy to be in her crate most of the time, but it is always her preference to be with her people. Despite her ample energy and high drive, Anya also really knows how to chill out but is also quite happy to entertain herself with a toy or bone. Anya absolutely adores playing in water and is happy to have a long leash by the river so she can wade in and splash around to her heart’s content. Because she is so high energy, Anya needs an active home committed to walking and/or running with her daily. She is always raring to go, nudging her leash or patiently waiting by the door when she sees her fosters putting their walking shoes on. Approximately 2-hours of walking each day has been perfect in her foster home, along with plenty of time outdoors as she adores being outside in nature. Anya would thrive in a home with a fully-fenced backyard where she can hang out and expend some of her energy. She is super dog-savvy, communicating well with her companions while wrestling, chasing, tugging, and exploring the yard. She’d had lots of practice with her foster brother and we know her best life will be spent with other dogs around. Anya gets along with dogs of all shapes and sizes, sometimes timid but generally warming up within a few short minutes. She would like to be the only female dog in the home, but would do great with a playful dog brother. She would do well in a home with children (ages 7+) and despite her prey drive, she would likely do well in a home with dog-savvy cats. She hasn’t been tested in a home with a cat but best to not have a cat in her forever home. The thing that Anya needs most is a home with endless love to share. She has the biggest, strongest heart and is always seeking out ways to share her love with you. Whether it’s snuggles, kisses, or silly play, Anya would love a family home with another dog to keep her heart full. Anya is a true pack dog and will be delighted to find her forever pack! As precious as Anya is, she is still a puppy and is working on a few things. She is working hard to perfect her ‘sit’ and ‘down’ commands with great progress being made over recent weeks. Anya is a repeat offender shoe-thief - a silly habit that has been hard to shake in her foster home. She typically isn’t destructive, but she certainly knows chronic shoe-stealing will get her some desired attention! Anya is great on her leash, although her high prey drive causes her to get very fixated on small critters and she needs some encouragement to continue moving along sometimes. Anya has also shown some crying occasionally when crated or fussing when one of her people leaves the house. It’s a testament to her big heart, so she’ll need continued support to learn that she doesn’t need to worry about her people - they will always come back to her. Anya’s dislike of being alone reduced drastically in her foster home with lots of positive reinforcement, consistent crate training, and healthy doses of love. We are extremely confident that she will continue feeling more secure as she settles into her forever home. Anya is eager to please and would benefit from more formal training classes to work on her recall while teaching her the finer points of walking on a leash. Pound Dog Rescue believes in the power of positive reinforcement training and requires signing up for classes as a part of the adoption to process. There are so many like things that make this girl so incredibly special. Anya is nicknamed “The Comfort Queen” because she always finds the snuggliest spots to relax. Whether on top of a stack of pillows, pretzeled in a pile of blankets, belly-up on a cushy dog bed, Anya melts into any comfy spot that she can find. She often flops down with a great “thud” and a big sigh, instantly relaxing. She loves taking toys out of the toy box one-by-one and you can often find her lounging in a pile of toys she’s collected. Anya can also be found in the yard doing hypersonic zoomies when she gets excited, or racing around with her foster brother - a 100lb Labradane. She is obsessed with her foster brother and follows him around relentlessly, literally squeaking with excitement while trying to entice him to play. When it comes to showing Anya affection, she will paw at you and gently nibble at your hands when you stop petting & touching her. She makes it very clear that affection is her love language! Anya also enjoys sitting and staring with laser focus at squirrels as they hop around from limb-to-limb, dreaming about a day when she can climb trees. Anya is truly a beautiful and unique soul. She has overcome so much in her young life and still shines brighter every day. She is effortlessly joyful, laughably silly, and endlessly loving. She cannot wait to meet her forever family and begin writing a new chapter of incredible adventures.
