Bear von Selbitz (known as Autumn in her foster home) is a stunning 2-year-old long haired German Shepherd. She was turned into the shelter by a breeder with too many dogs. She is a head turner so be prepared to stop often when you are out and about with her. Per her foster dad: She is honestly the sweetest, gentle, most friendly girl ever, but she has her independent side and loves anything/everything! Bear loves the dog park, and goes every day; she is super toy driven! So even if dogs want to initiate play, she just ignores them to go run after any toy/ball being thrown even if she already has one in her mouth. She will run and fetch as long as you can throw. She is very engaging and loves meeting new people and dogs as well. She is a sweet gentle soul with a tail that is always wagging. This fluffy girl has a medium energy level and is hoping some doggy playdates or fun hikes with her favorite people are on the schedule. Bear is a good camping buddy; she loved going to the river and was like a little kid splashing around trying to take bites of the water. She is house trained, rides well in a car and loves her walks on the beach. She is easy to walk on a leash and knows some basic commands such as sit and down and would love a home full of love and guidance as she continues to progress in her training. Bear is delightful and goofy and has her head tilt down perfectly. Honestly, she is a dream dog. Come meet her and see for yourself that she is a keeper. She is being fostered in Carpinteria Rescued from the Palmdale animal shelter. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Bear von Selbitz YOU MUST FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: www.sheprescue.org Application link: http://www.sheprescue.org/Application_to_Adopt_a_Dog%20Main.html Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bear von Selbitz, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
