TINY TROUT*

My story

Anadromous fish are incredibly adaptable, moving from the saltwater sea, inland to freshwater to spawn. This is an incredible evolutionary behavior, which certain species of trout engage in! We have a pup named Tiny Trout at the shelter who has also undergone an amazing evolution during his time in the shelter! Tiny Trout came into the shelter very undersocialized. He has gotten a lot of TLC from a special team of volunteers who work with our scaredy pups. He is making incredible progress and is absolutely shining! Here`s what a couple of his volunteer advocates said: “I worked with Tiny Trout this morning. Given his background and that I was new to him, I expected difficulties, but he actually did very well! I spent a couple of minutes in the kennel with him and his kennelmate to start. He allowed slow touch and leashing with no problems, exited and walked well, had a nice sitdown at the park where he approached for treats and accepted pets. Good walk back and easy return and unleash. He`s come a long way from when I first heard about him.”“Tiny Tuna has made significant progress in his socialization skills during the last month that I have been working with him. Trout likes to come up to my face and neck and sniff. He will stay near me as long as I don`t try to pet him. He has always been friendly and comes running up to the door whenever he sees me. He is very lovable and is worth the time it will take to build trust and ensure he is safe. He is very endearing!”When meeting other dogs in playgroup, Tiny Trout gains confidence the longer he is in the yard. He shares his kennel nicely with another dog and would probably love a confident, friendly doggy buddy to share his home with. He’s dreaming of a family who will not rush him, but who will trust the process and let him settle in with predictable routines, patience and positive reinforcement based training. We are so incredibly proud of Tiny Trout’s progress, as he is coming into his own as a friendly, happy pup!
