Elmer

My story

Meet Elmer! After spotting Elmer running loose in the street, a Good Samaritan kindly stepped in, safely catching him and bringing him to Santa Barbara County Animal Services, so his family could find and reclaim him. Sadly, no one came for sweet Elmer, so on April 13th, he made the long trip to become a Frosted Face. He is estimated to be 13 years old, and he weighs 11 lbs. Elmer can be a bit unsure if he's picked up too quickly, or if the leash goes on too fast, so he’ll do best with someone who can go slow and give him time to trust. With a gentle approach and a little patience, we know Elmer will make a loving and loyal companion. Elmer is currently on a two-week Frosted Fling, so we can learn what he's like in a home setting. A few days into their time together, his Fling Mom shared this update: "Everything is still new, and Elmer and I are learning together. He likes: -treats -kibble, air dried food, canned food -belly rubs -snuggles -water -other dogs -crates (goes in them on his own) -beds -regular clip leash on his collar So far, Elmer does not like: -slip leads -when I go near him when he is in the soft crate (if too close, he might growl and snap, but then he will come out on his own and want to be pet) -his crate or bed to be touched while he is in it -to be removed from the couch (he noticed the other dogs on the couch and wanted up, and he let me pick him up, but he did growl when I went to pick him up to put him on the floor.) Sometimes Elmer lays in a bed near the family, sometimes he goes to his soft crate. I moved the soft crate further away, so he will be more with the family. If he is on an open bed, he does fine with pets. It seems, like the rest of us, Elmer just wants to be loved. We'll keep on learning together." Stay tuned for the next update on Elmer!
