My story

Lotus where do we start with her story. Unfortunately, we can't start from the beginning as she was found as a stray with puppies. Her puppies have moved on to their forever homes but mom was quickly put on a euthanasia list at the shelter as soon as her puppies were weaned.  Like most shelters they are over crowded and unable to treat a dog with skin issues like hers. We realize Lotus isn't all shar pei but we were the only option for this girl and she is so sweet and like so many deserves a chance for a happy ending. After doing a bit of google searching it quickly became apparent why the shelter choose Lotus as her name. In many cultures its a symbol for sacred purity, rebirth and strength. We are excited to see this Lotus rise up. Ok so this is what we know so far...she did great with her first bath. She was amazing in the car on the long drive from NM. She is great with other dogs and very affectionate with people despite smelling like a stale bag of tortilla chips. This girl is obviously in discomfort with her skin but yet her sweetness shines through.  Our bald hippo is growing hair like little weeds. So far we haven’t done anything crazy other than weekly baths and a couple of cytopoint injections. Her bloodwork is perfect. This girl loves other dogs and would be so happy in a home that she can run and play with other dogs. She has done well with little dogs, big dogs, males and females!May 20, 2025, 1:25 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lotus, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
