My story

Thessia came to the shelter as a stray, and it’s clear she’s still figuring out how to feel safe and loved. Though initially shy and cautious—Thessia quickly begins to warm up. Once she’s out of her kennel, she transforms into a sweet, social girl who gently investigates her surroundings and seeks out calm connection. She knows commands like “sit” and “stay,” and is very food motivated, which makes her a great candidate for further training. While she was hesitant around toys at first, she’s shown growing interest over time—giving a glimpse into the playful pup she’s becoming. Thessia is likely to thrive in a home that understands shy dogs and can offer her consistency, patience, and lots of gentle encouragement. She’ll do best with someone who can move at her pace and celebrate every small step forward. At the gate, looked timid/soft but loose. Came into the yard with playful & appropriate greetings. 04/13/2025 staff notes: KENNEL PRESENTATION: Thessia was in the kennel with a neutral boy and began leash dodging when the handler reached in. Once secured with a lasso she bolted right out. LEASH SKILLS: Pulls strong HANDLING : In the room, Thessia was loose and social in the room, greeting everyone with soft eyes. She came up to sniff the handler's shoes curiously and tried to jump up for affection. She allowed all handling but was nervous when the handler went overhead. She kept her tail neutral and low, never wagging. She was very tolerant and calm with people, wanting to just be around people. She took treats gently and sat patiently for them. PLAY: No interest – stared intensely at the handler TOYS: No interest at first but with time she took possession 04/12/2025 staff notes, intake: dog appears scared, but will approach when you have food and listens to commands like sit and stay. Dog appears very food motivated, but is easily startled. Dog was placed in truck with control stick, but upon arriving into shelter was able to remove dog on leash and placing kennel.
