French Toast Male DSH buff tabby Estimated DOB: 03/2024 French Toast is the definition of a talker! He is very curious, loves attention, and will have long conversations with you anytime he sees you! Backstory: French Toast was part of a small group of around 15 outside cats that someone was looking after. He and a few other cats were brought by another rescue to a big spay/neuter event and one of the techs prepping him for surgery noticed that he had a badly infected injury on his back foot. The veterinarians could see exposed bone/feel that there was a fracture. The information was relayed to the rescue who was transporting him because left untreated, the infection would only become worse beyond the point of treatment. Open exposed bone is never good but especially not for a cat that lives outside and will get debris into the wound. The caretaker was contacted and she expressed that she would not be able to get him the medical attention he needed or pay for the likely surgery he'd need but wanted him to have the best chance that he could. The technician contacted Fig and Friends and it was arranged for him and another one of her cats who had severe health concerns to come into our care. X-rays showed that he broke two toes and one was beyond saving especially with the bone exposed. His veterinarian took a chance to see if she could save the leg and prevent it from having to be amputated by amputating just the toe that was beyond repair and then splinting the other toe since the bones were somewhat close enough to eachother still. French Toast absolutely hated having his foot/leg splinted and in a cast and managed to gnaw through the end of it even with a cone on! The casting and splint were removed and he miraculously is leaving the incision alone and it is healing. He is incredibly lucky because if the other toe could be saved, the whole leg would have needed to be amputated because he wouldn't be able to balance with 2 toes gone (they only have 4 toes on their back feet). French Toast has not skipped a beat and is incredibly active and using his foot like nothing every happened! Location: He is currently at the Happy Cat Cafe.
